Costa Floral Rows Shirt - $450

The Spring/Summer 2014 collection from Belgian designer Dries Van Noten has just arrived in-store, and it’s chock full of a diverse range of florals that only serve to justify once again his deserved reputation as a skillful master of prints. The inspiration for this season started in the archives of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, where a retrospective of his career will open next year, and then grew to include the men throughout history famous for wearing florals, from Louis XVI and Oscar Wilde to Jean Cocteau and Jimi Hendrix.

Although the range of influence is wide, the collection is seamlessly tied together with a dark colour palette and practical silhouettes. The lightweight, sometimes sheer, fabrics used in combination with the sweeping floral motif serve to push the boundaries of menswear in a new direction, giving it a slight feminine edge while still managing to remain firmly in the realm of the masculine. Here we feature a few of our top picks, but be sure to drop by our location in Gastown to check out the whole collection, available now in-store only.
