Launched in Paris in 2010 by friends David Obadia and Nelson Hassan, Brooklyn We Go Hard serves not just as a fashion label, but also as a platform to showcase a collective of gifted young artists through photography, special collaborations, and a bi-annual magazine. Named for a city that embodies both the mainstream and the underground, the label is a culturally-minded brand with a unique identity and philosophy. Design and photography go hand in hand at BWGH, with visual arts and cultural references playing big roles in the development and presentation of each collection, and every season keeps getting better as more skilled artists join their expert roster of collaborators.
The Spring/Summer 2014 collection from BWGH, “Hermosa”, captures the sunlit spirit of Southern California with faded summer colours and bold graphics reminiscent of an ocean horizon. Inspired by the innovative 1960’s “surfotography” of LeRoy Grannis, this season’s collection manages to create a nostalgic, yet timeless, homage to an exciting era in surf culture.
