Japanese label Kapital started in 1984 as a simple sewing factory with a love for handcrafted items, a characteristic that they still vigorously uphold. When they decided to launch their own label, they began by putting Japanese twists on American vintage wear, then expanded their source of inspiration to include various traditional clothing and workwear from all around the world. They are known for their innovative production techniques, a result of which is the unique denim washes and intricate stitch work seen on many of their garments. Vintage-inspired fast-colour bandanas and indigo-dyed garments are both staples of the brand, along with their beautifully shot and inspiring seasonal catalogues, which showcase local inhabitants of the different parts of the world they travel to each season.
The Fall/Winter 2016 collection from Kapital, “Bad Opera”, takes us to Budapest and gives us another amazing assortment of jackets, shirts, trousers, and accessories. With Kapitals usual mix of textured fabrics, prints, and patchwork, this season stays true to their unique ethos while continually bringing the brand forward into new directions.
