Not just a fashion label, Paris-based Maison Kitsune (from the French and Japanese words for house and fox, respectively) combines music, media and fashion to create the ultimate lifestyle brand. Founded in 2002 by electronic music veterans Gildas Loaec and Masaya Kuroki, the label has released some of the most recognizable electronic music in recent years, with acts like Hot Chip and Yelle as just two among their large roster of artists. Like the animal the brand was named for, both the music and the clothes produced by Kitsune can be described as snappy and smart, with a little bit of a mischievous twist thrown in.
The Fall/Winter 2015 collection from Maison Kitsuné, “K.I.M.” (short for Kitsuné Institute of Music), pays tribute to the “land of the morning calm,” South Korea. The dream-like quality of South Korean artist Moonassi’s work inspired this seasons prints, along with the trigram pattern seen on the country’s flag. Sophisticated cuts and textured fabrics add a modern take on the graphic style of the 1960’s, with contrasting colours and luxurious details providing the refined touches in line with the label’s natural aesthetic.
