Belgian born designer Martin Margiela began his namesake line, Maison Martin Margiela, in Paris in 1988 and soon became known as much for his innovative designs and different proportions as he was for his extreme mystery and reclusiveness, distinctive traits that the house still maintains today, several years after his departure from the company. Often described as iconoclastic and avant-garde, Margiela regularly reinterprets and deconstructs conventional fashion to create new forms and configurations. Classic silhouettes are transformed into unconventional shapes with exceptional tailoring and experimental design, creating a unique and timeless aesthetic that defies all rules.
An icy elegance runs through the Spring/Summer 2013 collection from Margiela, with metallic silvers and pristine whites dominating the colour palette for the season. Casual touches, like drawstring waists, sleeveless jackets, and espadrille shoes serve to effectively lighten the mood, and their usual ingenuity with shapes and materials ensure that this collection will not be mistaken for anything other than Maison Martin Margiela.
