Umit Benan established his namesake brand in 2009 after gaining valuable design experience in New York and Milan, where he now lives. His childhood experiences growing up and going to school in Istanbul, Switzerland, and the US, however, are what greatly influences his aesthetic, with clothes that are masculine, authentic, and full of layered contrasts. Each collection has a detailed and dynamic storyline that addresses issues that Benan personally relates to, and even though the clothes are all part of a larger narrative, they still manage to speak for themselves as bold, imaginative, and powerful statements.
Bosphorus, the Fall/Winter 2015 collection from Umit Benan, is inspired by Benan’s childhood memories of the Bosphorus Sea landscape and the colourfully dressed fishermen that worked there daily, clad in a combination of technical and tailored garments that perfectly mixed elegance with masculinity. A vibrant colour palette of yellow, blue, and green stands out against earthier tones, with casual silhouettes adding fun and function when layered with more tailored pieces.
