Colombian born designer Haider Ackermann is a man with a unique approach to style. Having graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Haider was able to create his own brand and began to show his pieces starting in 2003 at Paris Fashion Week. His designs were celebrated early on, and he was offered positions at Margiela, Dior and Chanel before joining the brand bvba 32 and merging with Anne Demeulemeester in 2005. By 2013, the brand was split between the two heads, and Haider returned to his eponymous label. Over the years Haider has received acclaim for many things, including his unique approach to fabric mixing, his use of color, and his attention to detail in both his symmetric and asymmetric designs. The end result is a contrast of strength and sensuality that speaks to the vision of the designer and the quality of production.
This summer’s collection from Haider represents a celebration of play and colour. Inspired by a group of youths in Haider’s life, the collection is meant to speak to the innocence of childhood and it’s accompanying ability for carefree play. Such a vision is accomplished by the style and mix of silks present in the outerwear as well as the colour schemes of many pieces. High contrast blacks, blues and whites are present throughout the garments. Some stand out pieces for the staff include the Baryum shirt, the Nessos trouser and the Perth zip up hoodie.
