Japanese label Kapital started in 1984 as a simple sewing factory with a love for handcrafted items, a characteristic that they still vigorously uphold. When they decided to launch their own label, they began by putting Japanese twists on American vintage wear, then expanded their source of inspiration to include various traditional clothing and workwear from all around the world. They are known for their innovative production techniques, a result of which is the unique denim washes and intricate stitch work seen on many of their garments. Vintage-inspired fast-colour bandanas and indigo-dyed garments are both staples of the brand, along with their beautifully shot and inspiring seasonal catalogues, which showcase local inhabitants of the different parts of the world they travel to each season.
Kapital returns for SS17 with a strong collection that reaffirms their devotion to their craft. Utilizing selvedge denim and indigo dying techniques, Kapital ensures that their garments are capable of standing the test of time. In fact, it is likely that they will become more beautiful as the days go on, as the indigo dye and prints will fade and provide a personal touch to the garments. Kapital also focuses on embroidery and distressing techniques, as is seen in the beadwork done on the outerwear and a button up shirt. Favourite pieces include indigo dyed bandana collage shirts, printed selvedge bandanas, and smiley face socks. Also included in this collection is indigo dyed patches for backpacks, tote bags, or anything requiring a little colour.
