A Silent Order in the Natural World, _J.L-A.L_

Known for its minimalist designs and industrial sensibility, _J.L-A.L_ today stands as a brand that focuses on the structural integrity and existing in the natural world with silent deliberateness. British designer Jean-Luc Ambride Lavelle encapsulates “silence” and “order” as the atmosphere for this season, revealing the fundamental similarities between fashion and architecture.

There is an undeniable architectural ghost haunting this season’s vision, one that echoes the silent, light-filled spaces of minimalist design. By pairing industrial metal buttons with complex, irregular paneling, J.L-A.L achieves a 'strength in calmness' that feels less like traditional fashion and more like a permanent, physical environment.

His SS26 collection, "Mille Chaises," or "1000 Chairs", enters into the scene by sitting still.

At Paris Fashion Week, _J.L_A.L_ presented their Spring/Summer collection in a show titled “Mille Chaises,” turning a simple “chair” into the main character, a prime focus. Treating the chair as a metaphor for “structure,” not as decoration but as a declaration of intent. The chair supports the body, it defines posture, and functions like an invisible system of order. The “chair” is the design ethos of this collection.

During the show, the models sat quietly on chairs designed by NICEWORKSHOP using its AL-Scrap series, while the audience stood around them. Creating an atmosphere akin to an art installation, generating presence through structure, and stillness.

_J.L-A.L_'s Evolution of Intent

While this season finds its rhythm in the rigid geometry of the chair, _J.L-A.L_ earlier collections drew from techwear and outdoor elements, defined by complex layering and high-performance textiles. Seams crafted to mimic the lines of rivers and estuaries. Slowly evolving his design values and language into a vision that fits contemporary audiences, Jean moves with silent deliberateness with this Spring/Summer collection.

Just recently _J.L-A.L_ has collaborated with Puma's Cell Geo 1 model, releasing a futuristic shoe that changes with the wearer.

In their first collaboration, _J.L-A.L_ x Puma unveils the sophisticated Cell Geo 1, a shoe with a distressed patent-leather upper, complemented by an architectural silhouette. The midsole is designed with a supported line pattern meant for stability and comfort. Taking inspiration from a “grandma’s sofa”, the shoe, over time, will naturally fade and develop its own unique patina. Gradually absorbing the marks of time, as a sofa would.
