Common Divisor Vol.8 : Refining Modern Menswear

Common Divisor has changed quite a bit this season. From its early days of contemporary streetwear to today’s quieter, more minimalist workwear silhouettes, the brand is stepping outside its comfort zone. This new direction feels like an effort to reach a wider audience—an evolution in style without losing its foundation.

Over the last two seasons we’ve carried Common Divisor, the brand leaned more toward streetwear silhouettes: hoodies and baggy denim with experimental panel constructions. This season, however, the focus is on subtraction rather than addition.

The silhouettes are cleaner, more refined, but still carry the brand’s DNA. The Niva Jacket, a cropped zip-up hoodie cut in a wool-blend tailoring fabric. The Feather Trouser, as its name suggests, is a straight-leg pant made from feather-light fabric, detailed with Common Divisor’s signature geometric design. These pieces show how the brand is moving toward a subtler, more timeless language.

At the heart of this new collection lies Common Divisor’s philosophy: to innovate within classic menswear while staying true to its principles. Designer Dong, originally from Shanghai, founded the brand with modern workers in mind—creating clothing that feels refined but still genuinely functional for everyday life.

Dong’s vision now extends beyond apparel. In 2024, he launched Deriv, a footwear label that carries forward the same design philosophy. Deriv shoes are designed for the everyday wearer, subtle and free of logos or overt signifiers, but standing out through precision and effortless style. Placed alongside Common Divisor, Deriv completes the picture of Dong’s vision: clothing and footwear that blend seamlessly into daily life, yet never fade into the background.
